Carlsmed is currently incubating at Southern California’s most successful technology startup incubator EvoNexus and maintains offices in San Diego and Seattle.

    Chief Executive Officer

    Mike is an accomplished MedTech industry leader with a track record of executing on commercial launch objectives. Mike has held various leadership roles for large MedTech companies including NuVasive, Zimmer Biomet, and Orchid Orthopedics as well as startups Ellipse Technologies and X-Spine Systems. Most recently, Mike led the commercialization of the PRECICE deformity correction technology for Ellipse Technologies that was acquired by NuVasive and spun out as NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics. Prior to Ellipse, Mike led the development and successful launch of the patient specific digital dentistry business at Zimmer Biomet. Mike has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton.

    Ms. Schulzki is a seasoned industry executive and has been Instrumental in driving multiple high return exit events in orthopedics and spine, including transactions with Synthes, JNJ and Medtronic.  She built three highly successful businesses in the spine and CMF spaces, and has held VP or C-Level positions with Stryker, Synthes, JNJ and Macropore.  Most recently, Sharon was with Tissue Regeneration Systems Inc, a University of Michigan spin-out company with two core technology platforms; the TRS 3D printed resorbable polymer technology was acquired by Depuy Synthes in 2017 and the nanostructured calcium phosphate coating technology was exclusively licensed to Medtronic Spine and Biologics in 2019. Sharon received a B.S. in Medical Technology from Loyola University, Maryland.

    Niall Casey is a spine industry veteran and has made major contributions to the development and IP protection of spine surgery devices over the past twenty years. He is a prolific inventor with more than 20 patents and has held key technical roles at market leaders JNJ DePuy Synthes and NuVasive. He has also practiced patent law at MIT and in private practice. Most recently, Niall was with Ellipse Technologies, where he led the development of the MAGEC spine deformity system. Niall has a B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a law degree from Suffolk University.

    Dr. Arrow is a MedTech executive with a 23-year record of C-suite and financial leadership roles. The CFO of Protagenic Therapeutics, Inc. (PTIX) and the CEO of Zelegent, Inc., he was previously President and COO and a Director of Biolase, Inc. (BIOL), and he chaired the Audit and Compensation committees of the Board. Dr. Arrow has also been the CMO of Stanford-affiliated neuroscience company Circuit Therapeutics, Inc. He spent five years as CFO of cardiovascular device manufacturer Arstasis, Inc.  Before MedTech operating roles, Dr. Arrow spent nine years in equity research at three Wall Street firms, most recently as head of MedTech research at Lazard, Ltd. He also spent two years as CFO of the Patent & License Exchange, Inc. He has an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a B.A. in Biophysics, magna cum laude, from Cornell University. He serves as an independent director on the Boards of wound care company Medcura, Inc. and Special Purpose Acquisition Company 8i Enterprises (JFK).

    Dr. Esterberg is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in spinal disorders with more than 15 years clinical experience. His practice at Swedish Medical Center is focused on minimally invasive and complex spine surgery where he treats adults with complex spine disorders. Dr. Esterberg is passionate about medical technology and has multiple patents related to surgical workflow, navigation and robotics. He co-founded Precisive Surgical, which was acquired by Carlsmed in 2019. Dr. Esterberg completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Minnesota and his complex spine surgery fellowship at the prestigious Leatherman Spine Institute in Louisville.

    Shariq is an experienced C-Suite Executive with a demonstrated history of working in the Medical Device industry. Strong information technology professional skilled in Systems Integration, IoT, Medical IT, and Electronic Health Records. As one of the founders of Intelliguard Solutions (ig.solutions) established an integrated product solution suite for pharmacy operations, medication safety and inventory management. Grew MEPS Real-Time, Inc., from a concept on a paper napkin to a leader in RFID based Inventory Management Systems in Healthcare. Inventor of eleven Technology and Method patents. Recent projects include development of a Neural Network for use with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for NetVinci and Palm Chip. Shariq has a B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering from University of California, San Diego and an M.B.A. in Technology Management from National University of California.

    Dr. Roh is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and the Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle. Dr. Roh is also the CEO & Chairman of IntuitiveX, a life science incubator created to help entrepreneurs and startups transform their ideas from concept to commercialization. He has more than 15 years of experience as an inventor, angel investor, and serial entrepreneur and holds multiple patents for spine surgery technology. Dr. Roh completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University and his complex and minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine’s world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. He is a graduate of the Michael G. Foster School of Business M.B.A. program at the University of Washington and completed a M.S. in Technology Management program at Columbia University in NYC.
